Read the following scenario:
Marjun is a 3 year old boy is fascinated by the color red fire in the candle. They don't have electricity that time that's why they are using candles to have light in the night. Her mother told him not to touch the fire coming from the candle. But instead of following what his mother told him, he finally touch the fire. His efforts earn him a burned finger and some valuable
knowledge. "Never touch the fire."
This scenario just shows us an example of Discovery Learning. Where the child was told by his mother only "Never touch the fire" but still he didn't listen and get his finger burnt. Because of his actions, Marjun now know that touching the fire can burn his skin and would hurt him.
If the mother told her child not to touch the fire because it will hurt him maybe Marjun would actually won't touch the fire. This would show of Reception Learning. Marjun is just a 3 years old child and don't have any knowledge yet about the effect of heat in our body. The mother would be the one who will guide her child with proper and pure verbal instruction so that her child would understand further the reason why we should not touch the fire.
Therefore:
Discovery learning is usually not taught by the teachers but are learned through everyday experiences while reception learning requires guidance with pure instruction in order for the learner to learn more about a certain matter.
